Roxanna Mitchell, Welcome, thanks for agreeing to do this interview, how would you like to start with this interview, what do you want to say at the start, maybe saying something interesting about The Perfect Score, or it can be anything, please? — with Roxanna Mitchell.

Roxanna Mitchell Hi, Shah! Thanks for having me on! You aren't with me but I'm jumping out of my skin with excitement. I'm usually very vivacious and outgoing. Doing this kind of thing makes my other side come out - shy. I'm excited to be sharing my debut novel, Perfect Score, a contemporary romance set here in Southern California.

Roxanna Mitchell PS is about a high-powered attorney/sports agent (James McDowell) who specializes in NBA players and a beautiful history writer (Nichola Bradford). They are both at turning points in their lives when they meet each other, changing their entire milieus upside down. Set here in the beach area, it's got a lot of laughs, real life locations and...well...there is some sex in it...mmm...lots of it actually and I don't mince words...EVER. *blushing*

Roxanna Mitchell I take much of my inspiration from where I live...the beach in Southern California

Roxanna Mitchell By the way, I'm classed as a contemporary romance author if that helps at all.

Can you make us laugh with a scene from the book, who is there and what happens, the scene that makes you laugh quite often, even when you are not there reading it. — with Roxanna Mitchell.

Roxanna Mitchell OMG. Well, Shah...it makes me laugh only because I can't really believe I wrote it and I can never think of this road again without visualizing the scene. Ahem...it involves a sexual encounter in a Mercedes between Nikki and Jamie on their way home from seeing the Lakers play. It is their first encounter and a rather steamy one in which Jamie nearly crashes the car. Without going into TOO much detail, I think you get the drift. I'd like to leave the rest to my readers' imagination and let them see for themselves. lol.

Roxanna Mitchell Right...where do I get my inspiration from? I'm a very sensual person in real life. I have to be able to visualize things before I can write. Consequently, I take pictures of landscapes, views, people. I LOVE human dynamics and surreptitiously photograph encounters I see along the beach, using them with my characters. I even take pictures of clothes. Music is also very big in my writing...I listen to it ALL the time. I will eventually have a playlist for Perfect Score as well as a recipe book. You see, Nikki LOVES to cook much like an author I know. So...my inspiration comes from many arenas of life. I'm a people person first...and I, of course, use my own experiences as well as some of my friends', to bring my stories to life. My editor would probably agree...she looks at me and can tell when I have a story in my head that needs to come out. I must have it written on my face already. I recently had a colleague post a picture on FB of his recent vacation - upon seeing the picture, I had a new story ready to go. I have since been given the use of the picture and it will become the cover for that book in the Perfect series. Does that answer your question, Ellen?

Why do you write? How long have you been writing?

Roxanna Mitchell Let's try the second question first. I started writing in high school (oh, so long ago). A friend of mine and I used to write really funny stuff - if we had kept it up we would have been the Mike Meyer of our generation. I went on to a legal type career and left writing behind until my muse poked me two years ago...well, he pushed me out of bed. Why do I write? It is a passion of mine. I'm getting emotional right now. It is something I HAVE to do. I don't feel complete until I get my stories out and then I'm incomplete because the next story is there. I write for ME - it is therapeutic and cathartic. If people like what I create, then I'm even happier.

Rox, I love how you are explicit with your emotions and how you portray "love".... for young readers as myself, what is your take on "love at first sight" versus "lust"?

By the way, your awesome!

Roxanna Mitchell Thanks, Nele! Love at first sight versus lust...well, I think I have experienced both. It feels different to me. Love at first sight...there's that pull, that chemistry, that comfortable feeling like wearing a worn in slipper. Lust is different...it's let's get it over with because we can't wait. And then afterwards, it's gone. At least that's my experience. Lust is instant attraction. Love at first sight is...ongoing attraction from my perspective. Does that make sense?
10 hrs · Unlike · 1

Roxanna Mitchell Nikki and Jamie have that pull...they don't want the one night stand...the drive by...they want the WHOLE package...but they do have the love at first sight chemistry. HOWEVER...they are quite lusty, too...a different kind of lust since they do in fact love each other.

Roxanna Mitchell And, oh, how I do love Jamie and Nikki. My editor wants a sequel...and I hae to admit I miss them tremendously...cried when I finished the book...their love is real. Ah, if we could all find that true love.

Roxanna Mitchell Well...I have to say that I am in LOVE with Jamie. He is the tall, dark, handsome, smart guy who seems to have everything at his fingertips. He's fun, charming, caring, sexy...wow...so sexy...yes, he is standing in front of me now. But he is also a very shrewd negotiator...and it helps Nikki play into his hand. She, on the other hand, is just as shrewd, having studied military strategies and tactics (something you learn later in the tetralogy). She starts out as a mopey chick, not really taking care of herself and how she looks. Then she is spurned by a friend of hers to do something with herself of end up a spinster with a bunch of cats (if you knew me you would know I HATE cats -- sorry, feline lovers). Once she fixes herself up, well, in comes Jamie. He is very rich and she is somewhat comfortable. Both live at the beach, engaging in healthy living and activities...much as I do.

Roxanna Mitchell Thanks, Kerry, for asking. My latest foray into the world of publishing is in an anthology now on Amazon - Shades of Fear - all proceeds go to pediatric cancer research and patient care. My late husband died four years ago of cancer so it is a hot button with me. My piece is called "Perfect Connection" and it is a personal story. Next...I'm finishing my second in the "Perfect" series entitled Perfect Fit - set 1/2 in SoCal and 1/2 in Biloxi, Mississippi. I'm listening to modern country music and DIGGING it. Got any shitkickers? lol. Seriously...the music inspired me as well as a personal story.

Roxanna Mitchell Forgot to say that I do have a muse...he's the one who pokes me in the back at 3am...with a Sharpie, folks! Heads out of the gutter. He yells at me to get up and write. I obey him because without him I wouldn't be writing. You can't see him but I see him very clearly. He's in the corner now, looking quite smug...yeah, yeah, later he and I will have a conversation...a quiet one.

What's your opinion on ebooks versus paperbacks. Are you a physical book reader ? What are you reading right now ?

Like · · Share

Roxanna Mitchell I love both actually but I think I prefer paperbacks/hard covers. I'm a sensory type person as I think my writing attests. I love the feel, smell, look of a book in my hands plus I'm anal and make notes. What am I reading now? Not much of anything -- I'm firmly enmeshed in finishing the next novel, Perfect Fit. But...I do love military history of all things - anything to do with SEALs at the moment.

Roxanna Mitchell I encourage EVERYONE who feels they have a story in their head to write. Write every day if even just a couple of lines. Practice makes PERFECT -- see? my word. I can write til the early morning hours and get up again within a few hours to start all over. WRITE, WRITE, WRITE What have I learned? A lot about myself. A lot about people. A lot about things, life in general. Much of writing is research if you want it to be believable and, ask my editor, I'm anal about that. I even drug my girlfriends out to a cowboy bar one night just to get the feel of it for my writing.
