Olagunju Peter, Welcome to our Spotlight live event, and thanks for accepting to be our guest today, from what we have read here, you are very much involved in media, can you tell us what made you choose to be what you are now, and tell us about some of your achievements please? — with Peter Olagunju.

Peter Olagunju My first major achievement (quite funny, though) was the first time I spoke on a radio (Premier 93.5 FM, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria). After being professionally certified, I have anchored very many programmes that have brought me to limelight. Amongst them are the interview I conducted for the Ondo State Governor of Nigeria, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko. The list is endless.

Shah Fazli Thank you, you have also indicated that you have many unpublished books, they might have titles or may not, can you tell us about them a little please?

Peter Olagunju Yes. Some of the titles are 'Dictionary of Errors', 'My journey through the unexpected and the 4am calls', 'The ABC of patience and understanding', and so on. However, two of these books stand out clearly as my favourite companion. They are 'Dictionary of Errors' and 'The ABC of patience and understanding'. The former seeks to purge speakers of the English language of the wrong forms employed in its usage while the latter chronicles the expected qualities of patience and understanding as it affects relationships, particularly friendship.

Shah Fazli Thank you, tell us about your interview with Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, please, how was it organised, and why was it so important for you?

Peter Olagunju The interview was organised to showcase the landmark achievements of Dr Mimiko's administration. It was organised by the Ondo State Government of Nigeria. Although, I had interviewed the likes of the current Vice Chancellor of Redeemers University of Nigeria (RUN), Professor Zecchariah Debo Adeyewa and the first female professor of Agriculture in Nigeria, Professor Tomilayo Eunice Adekanye, I had never interviewed a political figure of his type. It was therefore an achievement on my part to initerview the Executive Governor of Ondo State for over two hours.

Shah Fazli Certainly that is an achievement, tell us more about this, is it now your full time job, where do you want to go with it in the near future?

Peter Olagunju Yes, it is my full time job. I aspire to go places with it. For now though, I'd not mind an appointment at BBC or CNN.

Shah Fazli Tell us more about your books please, are they ready to be published, are you in contact with any publisher or not?

Peter Olagunju In total, I have fifteen unpublished books, four of them are camera-ready. I am not in contact with any publisher at the moment. Although, there are no funds for that purpose presently, the high rate of piracy in Nigeria is a big issue Authors are contending with. I am interested in foreign publishers who can assist in that regard.

Shah Fazli I understand, we have interviewed many Nigerian authors, and they have mentioned about their own specific problems in getting their books out, do you want to put more lights into your problems in that regards, why cant you get your books published in Nigeria, why is it so hard?

Peter Olagunju First is the high cost involved in publishing. Publishers in Nigeria are not author-friendly. An instance was when I met with a publisher who told me he'll get my books published but that I'll part with almost 50% of the returns on each copy as his own share. Publishers have got this stereotyped way of getting your books published. They have great difficulties in understanding the philosophies peculiar to each book. In the end, when the book gets published, it is hardly read.

Peter Olagunju David, my book 'My journey through the unexpected and the 4am calls' details the painful happenings in my sojourn through life and the disappointments I encountered. Although, different characters were used in the book, the book explains all that happened to me.

Peter Olagunju Shah, the books are me, I am the books! The books have gone through series of editorial works and are set for publishing. I am very positive about the publishing of the book and believe it will happen very soon.

Peter Olagunju The book 'Dictionary of Errors' was titled by Oyewole David. I remember how I struggled with the title of the book. It was not until David came around before I got that perfect title 'Dictionary of Errors'.

Peter Olagunju Oh yeah! I remember. Esther, It was interviewing a popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law during the GLO Lafta Fest held in Akure, Ondo State of Nigeria. The comdeian featured alongside other popular celebrities like Terry G, Wande Coal, Basket Mouth and Jude Abaga(MI).

Playlist? Santy asked. Yes, please, the DCA replied. ‘Don’t you have one?’
Like a whistle thrown in water, Santy’s voice murmured that he forgot his playlist back home-a playlist he never had!"

Peter Olagunju Esther, let me tell you honestly that I spend more than 45% of my income on Dictionaries. I do not acquire them for the fun of it, I read them every time, everywhere and everyday. In fact, I remember studying my dictionary while I used the convenience sometimes ago. I have gotten used to answering that name every time people call me that.

Peter Olagunju Oh, yes! Great satisfaction at that. One of my favourite quote says: 'your inadequacies in English language will comport you to be gentle when you come to public'. I enjoy studying the dictionary just as I enjoy rice and beans with stew.
